Adding a fire pit as part of your landscaping will extend the enjoyment of your backyard for you and your guests. They provide warmth, light, a cooking source, and ambiance, making them a natural gathering spot for socializing, entertaining, and relaxation. People are drawn to the campfire-like atmosphere, and before you know it, there will be story-telling and laughter. A fire pit can also serve as an important focal point in your outdoor landscape design. When placed where it can be easily seen from your interior living space, it can be enjoyed from the indoors as well.

Whether it’s winter and getting cold or a beautiful summers night, there’s nothing quite like sitting around an open fire in the backyard with family and friends & spinning a couple of yarns. But instead of digging a hole in the yard, or burning the lawn, here are a couple of easy low cost options to build your own backyard fire pit.

This first one uses concrete. And for just a few bucks you can buy a bag and get creative by utilizing other things laying around your house to make an awesome unique low cost fire pit.

All that’s needed is concrete, a bucket, 2 different sized plastic planter boxes, sandpaper, trowel, a couple of bricks and vegetable oil. This is a super simple method that involves using the planter boxes as molds to pour the concrete in between and give you the shape required.

Once the concrete is set, you can then pull it out of the mold and you’ve got a pretty cool looking little fire pit. And of course, you can get as creative as you like in terms of size and shape depending on the planter boxes used. Here’s the step by step video

An alternative but just as attractive option is to create a fire pit using concrete blocks arranged in a circle. This one is made entirely from materials and items that were brought at a home improvement center for less than $100.

You can cook on it or just sit around it and tell lies. Post apocalyptic life will not be complete without a fire pit to cook your rat on. Here’s the step by step video

Anything becomes possible with just a little inspiration.
