DIY Hillbilly Smoker
Who knew the same file cabinets that hold some of the most important information could also be used to make your next meal. If you want to build a smoker or barbecue then consider making one from a file cabinet. It takes only a few hours, minimum tools, it works great and it the whole thing can easily cost $20 - $40...if you don't have to buy the tools or if you have a little creativity.
Here is a list of what you will need to build a file cabinet smoker/barbecue:
A four drawer vertical file cabinet (get for free off craigslist.com)
2" x 1" x 16" piece of wood x15
Chicken Wire or 1/2" Hardware Cloth
Reflectix Duct Wrap Insulation (optinal) $8.00 for 25' x 4' at Lowes
Wire Coat Hangers x2
A Corded Drill
An old pot or pan or coffee can
1 3/8" stepped drill bit $9.95
1100 W electric hot plate $13.99
4 barbecue thermometers $12.99 for two
Cooling racks x2 $9.95
Mesquite wood chips $3.99 for 3 lbs
