In the Summer, it's possible to get to the Lykov's old place by way of a 7 day canoe trip. By winter it's virtually inaccessible by anything other than helicopter. 

In 1978, a team of Russian geologists spotted the Lykov's farm by helicopter.  They later hiked in to meet them.


It was their first contact with the outside world in more than 40 years!

And it marked the end of their isolation

When the Lykov family became famous in Russia as the family of siberian hermits that didn't know that World War II took place.
